Cabin In The Woods

Hmm let’s see, where did we leave off? Oh yea…that gorgeous sunset I somehow missed. Oh well…there’s always tonight!

Yesterday’s dinner was fantastic. We grilled up a few bison steaks that my mom scored at Whole Paycheck, veggies, and pineapple.

(dad spraying beer on the meat)

Thoughts on the bison meat: it was accidentally slightly overcooked but still had a more pronounced “meatier” taste to it. Definitely worth trying but not something we will purchase often (it’s soo expensive!)

Come nightfall, my dad lit the furnace (not sure what else to call it?) and the four of us sat around the crackling fire and ate Russian cake with tea.

(traditional Russian dessert – Smetanik…rough translation = sour cream cake)

Afterwards, I fell asleep almost immediately, slept like a lump of wood, and awoke to a blaring iPhone alarm clock forcing me to go on my planned 5 mile run. Eff you alarm clock, you are the death of me. Always. I’ve been trying to transition into an early morning runner in preparation of the half marathon, and it’s been quite the challenge. Today’s run was very unique – my paranoid mom (it runs in the family) refused to let me run by my lonesome, so she drove by me the entire 5 miles.

Now that’s love. Thanks Mama!!!

The run wasn’t too painful emotionally (sounds so dramatic but you know what I mean), but physically it was rough. Damn you, knee/IT band pain!

Those mini hills were kind of brutal.

Sharkies to the rescue!

(Not sure how I feel about these yet. They were so so sweet and stuck to my teeth like cray! Great boost of energy, though)

And can’t forget the protein green smoothie (which ended up being more like a nasty green mousse that I gagged down).

Icing was later done in style (after breakfast):

(gross toes, sorry)

I stretched and foam rolled for half and hour while the rest of the fam awoke for the day. Starvation was extreme at this point  and mom came to the rescue with a delicious breakfast skillet.

I had a crazy obsession with skillets about a year ago, and this may just spur those old memories.

Freshly squeezed orange juice courtesy of my sis:

The day continued with a short trip to the beach…

(Russian Glamour…love love love!)

…and an obligatory long walk along the water

Flat feet!

Sea glass:

I’ve been collecting sea glass for years already but rarely find it anymore while on vacations. This isn’t official sea glass because it’s not as smooth as it should be and it’s not the sea haha! Oh well, I’ll take it anyway!

Today has been deemed a fish-eating day, so we grilled up some salmon steaks (marinated in mustard, mayo, paprika, and salt) with brown rice on the side:

(not all for me)

Holy yum these were fabulous!

My sis and I followed lunch with relaxation + clay masks:

(stalker sis took this pic)

I’m sitting in our beautiful sun room sipping fresh juice as I type this post and it’s glorious.

Preview of what’s in store for tonight:

Please don’t make me go home yet…pretty please?

Have you ever tried bison meat before? Thoughts?

What do you like to collect/bring back from your vacations?

Ha! Your mom is awesome, i can’t believe she drove along side you the whole time, i love it 😀 I hate the way chewy things stick to my teeth when i run – i wish i could have someone follow me around with popsicles the whole time – yum!

I couldn’t believe it either! But I will probably be the same paranoid mother one day…better safe than sorry right?
