Just Another (Rainy) Day

Hi friends, has it been a happy Tuesday for you? It’s warm but rainy here and I’m still struggling to wake up despite it being almost 6PM already. Yikes!

I joined a friend for dinner last night at Print and we feasted on bone marrow, kale salad, goat cheese gnocchi, and duck prosciutto in between swigs of wine. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem in Hell’s Kitchen, likely because of it’s obscure location way near the Hudson River. The night ended with dessert in the form of a chocolate hazelnut crunch bar and a house made ice cream sampler (flavors: buttermilk, browned butter, and rocky road) washed down with 25-year aged port wine (my first time trying it!). Sorry, I have no photos so you’ll have to take my word on it…the food was delicious but the dessert was unsurprisingly my favorite part.

I attempted to sleep in as long as possible this morning before starting the day with my usual breakfast: vegan buckwheat waffles and a frothy almond milk latte.

Yup, 1.5 years and still going strong! I know I’ve been promising the recipe for months already and failing every time…I just need to get around to photographing it! It WILL happen, I promise.

Since I worked from home today (thank goodness), I managed to sneak in a 45 minute cycling session at the gym…

…it was completely empty! I created my own routine that basically involved:
5 minute warmup
15 minutes of hill climbing endurance with short bursts of speed
10 minutes of sprints (30 seconds on, 30 seconds off)
10 minutes of resistance (slow peddling with high resistance and some sprints)
5 minute easy cool-down

Dare I say it was kind of…fun? And no, running is still #1 in my heart and I miss it 124052148 times a day. A little over two weeks left until I can hit the pavement again!

I’m currently sitting here playing a mind game with myself as to whether or not I should attend a strength training class that starts in approximately 30 minutes. I know I should go because I need to try out all these classes offered and actually utilize this expe$ive gym membership, but I’m so sleepy. And the battle of the wills continues…

Frankly, all I really want to do tonight is work on my 2014 Inspiration Board and write in my Moleskine. Obsessed!

Hooray for a yoga day tomorrow, I need it.

What is the best gym/workout motivator for you?

Is anyone else obsessed with journaling?

♥ Irina

I’m glad I’m not the only Moleskin addict out there. I’m obsessed with mine! I’ve been keeping journals since high school and I always always always use Moleskins. (:
Your dinner at Print sounds heavenly. I mean, goat cheese gnocchi? Sign me up!

Enjoy the rest of your week, gorgeous!

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to discover Moleskines! They’re so durable and just plain look nice…I’m obsessed too!

P.S – I’ll email you the budget spreadsheet at some point today! Get ready…it’s intense 🙂

Mind games about exercising? I can most certainly relate :P. But I do often find that after a good run or a session at the gym, I am less tired. I also understand that it’s important to spend some quality time getting those creative juices flowing—very excited to see your ’14 board 🙂

So very very true! I definitely feel much more awake and optimistic (yay endorphins) after pretty much any workout, regardless of how short it was.

I’m a diehard journaler. Been going strong for about 12.5 years now! I love journaling. I’ve never actually had a Moleskine, though! Just every other possible journal under the sun…haha.

That’s so incredible!! Props to you for maintaining the habit for that long…it will be so amazing to look back at different periods in your life and reread what was written back then.

You should give Tabata workouts a try on the bike! I have been off running off and on the past year and when I can’t run, Tabata workouts go fast and are awesome.

Whoa Tabata workouts can be done on a bike? I’ve never actually done Tabata workouts, especially now with my shin injury, but doing them on a bike sounds perfect! Do share 🙂
