(My) End of Summer Weekend

Happy Labor Day to those in the U.S! I hope you all enjoy the holiday while keeping in mind what it truly represents.

I’m so confused because it feels like a Sunday but it’s actually a Monday and my mind is all jumbled. Actually, this has been the case ever since I left my job for full-time school. I never know what day of the week it is! But I woke up being well-aware of the fact that today is my last day of summer, so I ended up skipping my scheduled morning run and sleeping in like a bum. My bed just gets me, you know? Plus, we’re in for another heat wave this week and I’m already dreading every run in the heat + humidity.

My fall semester officially starts tomorrow (!!!) and I’m as giddy as a bookworm on the eve of a brand new school year. New books, prepped pencils, crisp paper, a new backpack…

(I invested in this stunning “grown up” version of a classic book bag, love love love!)

AND new glasses! After struggling with occasionally wearing contacts to class, I finally visited the optometrist and opted for a gorgeous pair of metal-rimmed Lulu Guinness frames that give me the perfect balance of nerdy and sexy.

Even though summer doesn’t officially end until the 23rd of this month, I typically mark my own personal end to the summer with Labor Day. This year was no exception, and I made sure to make the most of my final days of freedom before a crazy wild school semester. My weekend was pretty mellow though, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! My closest NYC friend came over for wine night on Thursday, I stayed in and watched ‘Age of Adaline‘ on Friday, met up with some old and new friends on Saturday, and ventured out to Brighton Beach for Russian food on Sunday!

We feasted at my favorite restaurant, Skovorodka, before strolling down the boardwalk along the beach. But of course we couldn’t leave little Russia without stocking up on the greatest Russian desserts ever!

Russian dessert

Seriously though, I’m trying so hard to limit the amount of sugar and sweets I’ve been eating but oh mah gawd I’m struggling hard-core with this sugar addiction. Look at that cake though…how was I supposed to resist?!? And those little nuts (yes, they’re called nuts in Russian, giggle away) are filled with caramel from the heavens. At least I’ve also been indulging in healthy breakfasts that are easy on the stomach and on the eyes. So pretty right?

I’m really looking forward to having a structured schedule again, it’ll be a welcomed change after three weeks of bumming around in limbo. Oh and my mom and I completely redecorated my studio last weekend when she was visiting, and it feels like a brand new space! I was getting slightly antsy as I hit the 2-year mark in my apartment, and rearranging my furniture totally did the trick!

(Sneak peak! I love the new arrangement SO MUCH MORE than the previous setup. Stay tuned, I promise to do a video tour as soon as some new furniture comes! Promise…)

Alright, I’m off to plan & figure out all the wheres and whens for this school week. Have an awesome Monday everyone, see you tomorrow with a fun list of all my back to school must-haves!

It’s crazy hot here too! Minus the humidity 😛
I LOVE that backpack! I really need to try some Russian desserts….your pictures make them look incredible!

Have a fun start to the semester 🙂

Ugh please take away some of our humidity! I feel like I’m drowning when I run 🙁

I’m hoping to soon recreate some of the Russian desserts, so perhaps one day you’ll actually try them out!

I feel you on the sugar addiction. I keep telling myself I need to get it under control just for the next month or so until after the marathon, and then coworkers bring in donuts and cake and cookies all in the same day (that same day being today 😛 )…yeah. I haven’t had anything yet, but I don’t know if I have enough willpower to hold out all day. Alas.

Your apartment looks so nice! It’s amazing how far a little redecorating can go to changing up a space.

Oh man I hope you managed to resist those scrumptious temptations! Seriously though, can we attempt to have a no-sugar September? I totally intended to do this but then Russian desserts came along and I failed within the first three days of this month. Help!
