NYC Marathon Training (Week 3)

Week 3! It was a rough one, but that had nothing to do with running. The truth is that I’m stressed, undoubtedly about this crazy medical school application process. It’s weird because I don’t feel stressed and anxious in the way I’m accustomed, but my new eating and sleeping habits tell a different story. I’ve essentially become an insomniac with no appetite. Eating and sleeping have become such chores, which is sad because they are (were?) my favorites. It doesn’t help that I can’t stomach anything besides water after my runs because of the heat… My running doesn’t seem to be affected by this yet, but I know it’s unreasonable to think that I can maintain this for long.

(Tuesday – I ran and then laid out in the middle of Central Park)

WEEK 3 (7/18/2016 – 7/24/2016)
Monday: rest
Tuesday: 4 mile run (39:34 min @ 9:53 min/mi)
Wednesday: rest
Thursday: 4 mile run (39:20 min @ 9:49 min/mi)
Friday: rest
Saturday: rest
Sunday: 8 mile run (1:21:12 @ 10:08 min/mi)
TOTAL = 16 miles

Thoughts: In better news, I think I’m finally acclimated to the heat! Thursday’s 4-mile run was the best – I ran the full distance without having to stop a single time to prevent my heart from exploding out of my chest. And the 8-miler went well too! I did end up stopping a few times, mainly to stretch my left knee (ITBS, I’m sure of it…I feel it stemming from my hip) but the heat didn’t really bother me. In all, it took me almost a month to acclimate to this steamy summer. It’s about time! I’m sure you also noticed that I did zero cross-training. Ugh, no excuses. At least I’m going home this week, which means my roller blades and I will reunite yet again!

    Nice work on acclimating! I…definitely have not. Haha. Or at least it sure doesn’t feel like I have. Fall cannot get here fast enough for me!
