NYC Marathon Training (Week 12)

Hello again from the states! Need I say that Europe was absolutely incredible? Vienna and Budapest were lovely but I fell head over heels in love with Prague. The only downside was that I was super sick with a cold the entire trip! I literally got sick the day before we flew out, and battled with it every single day. So as you’ll see below, running never happened. It’s truly a shame because I was looking forward to exploring each city via my favorite activity, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

WEEK 12 (9/19/2016 – 9/25/2016)
Monday: walking
Tuesday: 6 mile run walking
Wednesday: walking
Thursday: 6 mile run walking
Friday: walking
Saturday10 mile run walking
Sunday: rest
TOTAL = 0 miles

Thoughts: Well well well, this was bound to happen, wasn’t it?!? To be fair, I was so sick during the entire trip and running was basically physically impossible. Perfect timing right? I completely lost my voice in Vienna for two days and dealt with a pretty serious cough + congestion + weakness in all the other cities. Yup it was rough, and made worse by the fact that we barely slept. And when I say barely, I mean barely. Three hours nightly on average, and one night we slept for only 45 minutes. I KNOW RIGHT. I never want to do that again.

But we did a lot of walking, so I didn’t feel as guilty skipping out on training last week. Tragically, I upgraded my iPhone (hellooooooo iPhone 7!!!) on Monday and of course I lost all my data from the health app that included the distances we walked. I’m so bummed! I do recall that we averaged about 5 miles a day at minimum, and one day we even reached 10 miles in Prague. Walking is still exercise!

I ended up taking off 11 days total from running, but I luckily didn’t seem to lose much fitness when I returned to training again this week. I’ll save that for next week’s recap though…

Ahhh Prague! My first visit to Europe was to there and I’ve always wanted to go back.

It’s one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever visited!

Oh no! What terrible timing with being sick! 🙁 Hopefully you’re feeling a lot better now! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the trip anyway, though!

I know right 🙁 It’s ok, the trip was still super fun although it took me nearly a week to recover from it. I needed a vacation from my vacation!

Welcome back! Sorry you were sick the entire time of your stay though 🙁
I had to pull an all-nighter in lab over the summer and it was the WORST thing ever…I realized how SO important sleep is!

Hope you are getting lots of rest and lots of good runs in 🙂

Yes, agreed. It’s so easy to forget how important sleep is, but this trip definitely showed me that I cannot function on such minimal sleep. Being sick didn’t help either. I hope you’re not pulling too many more all-nighters these days!
